Joshua Ryan, who goes by the stage name Jake Owen, was born on August 28, 1981 together with his twin brother Jarrod. The two were in various sports in the early times but Jake took up golf and pursued it as his profession. As a professional golfer, he won his first tournament at the age of fifteen. The two brothers joined Florida State University. He got a wakeboarding accident and had a reconstructive surgery thus he could not continue playing golf. As he was recovering, Jake borrowed a guitar from his neighbor and later he started playing gigs at a bar. He moved to Nashville, Tennessee where he went to open an account and gave a bank teller his CD which she then sent to Warner Chappell Music Company. However, this company did not sign him in but he met with Jimmy Ritchey who was a songwriter and record producer. The two of them wrote a song ‘Ghosts’ along with Chuck Jones which drew the attention of executives of Sony BMG Nashville. In 2005, he was signed to RCA Nashville Label and they suggested that he changes his name to Jake. He released his debut song ‘Yee Haw’ in 2006 which hit No. 16 on the Billboard Chart for Hot Country songs. On July 25, 2006 he released an album which featured 11 tracks which he wrote with his producer. On February 24, 2009 he released the second album ‘Easy Does It’ which hit No.13 on the Billboard 200 and No.2 on the Billboard Chart for Top Country Albums. Jake released his third album ‘Barefoot Blue Jean Night’ on August 30, 2011. The lead song titled as the album title, became number 1 single on the chart, the second single ‘Alone With You’ hit No.1 on the country chart. ‘Days of the Gold’ which was the first single of his fourth album was released on August 2013 and the album itself was released on December 3, 2013. He announced that his new single ‘American Country Love Song’ would be released on March 7, 2016. His fifth album was released on July 29, 2016. In November 2017, Jake was signed by Big Loud Records.
